Second Homes in Highlands-Cashiers?
I can understand why one would want to buy a second home in Highlands-Cashiers. I bought a second home here in 1998. We would come up from Atlanta almost every weekend, especially in the spring, summer and fall. The summer temperature in Atlanta would be 95 degrees but the temperature on my porch in Highlands would be 70 degrees. That’s hard to beat. We moved here full-time in 2004.
We also enjoyed the lifestyle change, from the hustle and bustle of the metropolitan area to the calm, quiet, relaxed lifestyle of the beautiful North Carolina Mountains. There is no road rage here, instead locals’ wave at you in a friendly way.
At night we can actually see the stars and the occasional passing of a satellite. In June the woods and fields light up with thousands of lightning bugs or fireflies.
In the fall, the colors are magnificent and hiking is especially pleasant with no mosquitoes.
Dining and shopping are favorite pastimes. The restaurants are excellent and the boutique shops attract many shoppers.
Kayaking, white water rafting and fishing are available from rushing mountain streams to nearby lakes.
